They accumulate wealth, material possessions, experiences, friends, visible, tangible images of themselves of one form or another-which they require as the material evidence, a physical confirmation that they exist at all, as the constant, instinctively and impulsively experienced deficit, the pull of the emotional black hole within their short-sighted and narrow minds, coming often from the lack of balance and different degrees of physical or emotional abuse in their childhood, renders them unable to see beyond the event horizon, with their lonely perspectives of the empty, seemingly isolated spots they occupy in time and space feeding the urge to constantly reaffirm their position, status, importance.Ĭancer, for instance, is the cellular-level conqueror, who, not being able to cope with the amount of assimilated energy (sugar!!!) and its high-frequency radiation, has felt, as a physically inevitable result, the molecular discomfort at first, and, ultimately, the most deep and paralysing fear that it might cease to exist-as all cells should at some point so that the larger organism they are components of can continue to exist-and, to avoid the inevitable demise, establishes the self-centred, myopic collective of similarly-minded buddies, who eagerly roll up their sleeves and proceed to accumulate resources, determined not to die, unaware that by draining the seemingly infinite environment they are, in fact, ultimately killing themselves. Because that’s what it’s all about-control and accumulation. They do not attempt to blend in, to understand, to assimilate-they come as superior masters to dominate and exploit, to impose their view of reality and rule by force, fear, isolation, granting the right to live and possess. Their objective is to arrive in the glory of victory and claim what they see, officially-in the name of their kings or gods, whatever shape they might assume, effectively-in their own interest. They depend on the speed and the force of advance, deeming humility, modesty, sensitivity or empathy-weaknesses. I don’t think I need to assume I’m mistaken- or in any way exaggerating-expecting the indigenous people of Australia, the Americas, Africa and Asia would strongly disagree as for the brightness and the overall quality of that light-as for them, those who hadn’t been familiarised with the cowardly, and deadly, magic of firearms, for instance, it was the beginning of a grim and dark world.īecause conquerors, not uncommonly with a little help of pillage-resourced funds, superior rulers lacking common morality and the direct use of brute force, assume their right to declare possession. People like Mr Musk, having the privilege of access to knowledge, education and resources, should have the awareness-as that part of history has not been a particular mystery, and the knowledge is widely available, so, having, assumingly, received education at a decent level, they have no real excuse for the ignorance-when their eagerly voiced opinions start sounding very much unlike those of Mr Sagan, chillingly reverberating instead those of the 15-16th century conquistadors, bringing the light of civilisation to the lands uninhabited by humans, read ‘humans of a fair skin tone, a narrow nose, speaking one of the European languages and dressing in a familiar, decent and, essentially, civilised way’. Now, in the striking contrast to Carl Sagan’s words marked by the concern and humility of an awe-stricken scientist driven by curiosity and modesty in the face of the seemingly infinite vastness of the unknown, this here, seemingly innocent in its superficially progressive positivity, is one of the most arrogant utterances I’ve ever heard, given not only the current circumstances, but also the historical context.
